| Short Description |
| Developing Curriculum and Instruction for Students with High Abilities (3-day workshop) |
| Detailed Description |
| Do you have a district team of teachers that is ready to take on the challenge of extending their curriculum units to be appropriate for high ability learners? At this workshop, participants will: 1) Receive instruction and software for taking your units and reworking them to include higher levels of thinking, greater complexity of content, strategies most appropriate for high ability learners, and differentiated student products with rubrics designed for student accountability; 2) Learn how to use the widely acclaimed Curry and Samara matrix with the Indiana Curriculum Standards embedded as your curriculum framework; and 3) Develop model lessons and tools for assessing student learning. The prerequisite for the summer 2010 training requires attendance at one of Dr. Curry’s one-day workshops (2008-2009 year or 2009-2010 year). Dr. Jim Curry has served as a classroom teacher, a program coordinator, an administrator, a consultant, a university professor, and a mentor. Jim and his colleague, John Samara, developed the Curry-Samara Model (CSM) to assist teachers in planning and implementing instructional activities that respond to learner needs. This model is especially useful for developing curriculum, instruction, and assessment for high ability learners. The model has been field-tested in many states and in classrooms, pre-kindergarten through high school. Software that uses the model includes Indiana Curriculum Standards. Audience: High Abilities Coordinators, Teachers of High Ability Students, Curriculum Specialists, and others involved in the development of curriculum for high ability learners. (Registration is open to Indiana Public School Educators and is FREE).
