Is your writer’s workshop chaotic? Do you struggle to keep everyone on task? The key to a successful writer’s workshop is the management that underlies it. More than just theory or philosophy, attend this workshop for teacher-tested strategies that work. Participants will: 1) Learn procedural lessons that establish the tone of an effective writer’s workshop, 2) Learn to better manage time and truly keep a mini-lesson “mini”, 3) Understanding the 3 phases of a writer’s workshop: a) mini-lesson, b) independent writing time, and c) group share opportunity, 4) Learn methods to better manage writer conferences, 5) Learn strategies to troubleshoot “needy” spellers and “dependent” writers, and 6) Find out strategies to keep an “I’m Done” writer focused on his/her piece throughout the entire writer’s workshop. Audience: Grade K-8 Administrators, teachers, curriculum coordinators; Grade 6-12 English Language Arts Teachers. February 25, 2010 (Deadline to register is February 11, 2010). 9:00AM-3:00PM (doors open at 8;30AM). $125- NWIESC Members; $175 – Non-Members. Fee includes meals and materials. Location: NWIESC. 1 credit hour of graduate level credit will be provided (for an additional fee)
